Stay At Home Moms Worry About the Economy

Hilary Rosen, an advisor for the Democratic National Committee, last night said that Ann Romney had never worked a day in her life, so her husband, Mitt, shouldn't be consulting her on how women feel about the economy [paraphrased]. While I am not even voting for Mitt, I feel that this viewpoint cannot be overlooked.

Never working a day in your life does NOT mean that you don't think about and worry about the economy you live in. Seriously. In Hilary's blog today defending her words last night she said, "Now let's be clear on one thing. I have no judgements about women who work outside the home vs. women who work in the home raising a family. I admire women who can stay home and raise their kids full-time. I even envy them sometimes. It is a wonderful luxury to have the choice. But let's stipulate that it is NOT a choice that most women have in America today."

If she truly understood America she would understand that for most of us it's not a wonderful luxury to have a choice. It is a tremendous sacrifice that makes our lives a bit harder and our bank accounts a lot smaller, which puts us even more in touch with economic struggles and hardships.

Stay at home moms are often the budgetmaker/billpayer. We worry about how to pay the mortgage. We count every penny at the grocery store trying to stay within our budget. We eat spaghetti twice a week because we it is inexpensive. We tell our kids we can't go to Disneyland because we can't afford it.
Just because we don't bring home the bacon doesn't mean we don't worry about whether or not we have enough to make BLTs.

According to the Associated Press, President Barack Obama's advisers have demanded that Rosen apologize to Ann Romney. However, she has not backed off.

Ann Romney responded by saying that raising five sons was a full-time job and that her husband, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, considered it more important than his role as family breadwinner. My own husband admires and respects me for my role in our household.

You know, Hilary says she isn't judging at home moms, but that is not the feel that her comments portray. I would never judge a woman for going to work to support her family. I should get the same respect. Don't judge me for sacrificing to support my family. Staying at home with your kids is not at all like taking a ride on Easy Street.

Well-said, Jalee!! I heard about this just this morning and this woman's comment just rubbed me wrong. I appreciate Ann Romney for sticking up for her own choice. And I absolutely agree with you that stay-at-home moms feel the stress of a bad economy. If you grocery shop and pay bills, you know enough to know the economy stinks right now. You don't hsve to work outside the home to have a working knowledge of budgeting and sacrifice.

P.S. I do miss "talking" with you on facebook. I hope you are doing well!!

Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.
